Talking Tech at The FuseBox | Making Sense of Augmented Reality

If you are interested in (or just merely curious about) augmented reality and interactive experiences, join us for a relaxed lunchtime get-together at The FuseBox.With Apple expected to announce their MR Headset this year, and AR Glasses in 2023, we can safely predict that AR will properly hit the mainstream by 2024. But can we expect anything more than fun(ny) stuff, promotional campaigns, enhanced games and services? Can we expect anything more meaningful? To make sense of AR, perhaps we need it to make sense in broader contexts. As all extant technologies are, by default, already historical, one approach is to look at how AR's predecessors help situate its current core mechanics. Taking a long view, one that positions the present at the centre, might help us in synthesizing novel approaches to thinking about, and creating, meaningful AR.Join us for a Talking Tech with our FuseBox resident, Julian Weaver, founder of Finetuned. He's an artist, researcher and creative technologist working across a broad range of interdisciplinary and research projects in the arts, academic and corporate sectors.Free and open to all!Bring your lunch and your questions. Image caption: Male Ruffed Grouse in the Forest - Gerald Thayer, 1907-8Attribution: Internet Archive Book Images, No restrictions, via Wikimedia Commons.
