Featured Resident: Jack Maddalena, VRCraftworks
This week we caught up with FuseBox resident since September 2017: Jack Maddalena, Co-Founder of VRCraftworks.
Hi Jack! For anyone not familiar, can you tell us about VRCraftworks?
We are an immersive company making bespoke VR, AR 360 (Photos + Videos) and MR content for our clients. We also create our own software, 6DoF for a smartphone and our platform that allows 2 or more people in the same 360 photos at the same time.
Why Immersive tech?
It found us we didn’t find it… My father (and co-founder of VRCraftworks) Peter Maddalena and myself were experimenting with immersive technology for years before it became a talking point in mainstream media. Our interest began when we became part of a small online community with the likes of “parmtech” (Palmer Luckey – Founder of Oculus) and other leading figures in the field. This online community, including ourselves initially wanted to buy the first VR headset from “parmtech” until a Kickstarter created Oculus (now one of the top-selling providers of VR headsets). From these very first developments in hardware, we decided to dive in, creating VRCraftworks and we haven’t looked back since.
What has VRCraftworks been working on recently?
We’ve started working on our new software that allows 6DoF on a smartphone, meaning we can give a high-end type of VR experience on a smartphone (1.2 billion users). We are first to offer this to brands. We can create a new consumer journey avenue that will result in a new revenue stream, market research, better ROI in ad spend etc. How? Find out more here & watch it in action here.
What have you learnt since being in The FuseBox?
We’ve learnt a lot here as you always do when moving the company forward. However, what’s great to have, is the accessibility to the community here. We have a range of companies doing different things that can help out or if you have a question someone will know the answer.
What’s your favourite piece of equipment from the Brighton Immersive Lab?
Very hard to say… As there are so many useful things here. When a client comes to the office and sees the tech we have access to, creditability raises to the next level.
The FuseBox is all about collaboration. If you could work with any living person who would it be?
Personally… Hmmm, why not Elon Musk, just to see how he ticks and goes about everyday life.
As a city, what do you think separates Brighton from the rest of the UK?
We are the best, simple. The people here are amazing, even our “competitors” in Brighton (and us) are doing some magical things and pushing the boundaries on what’s possible. Brighton should be known on the UK map for an immersive hub and the best.
How do people find out more about your company?
You can find out more about us on our website and our social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Youtube. Interested in being a resident at the FuseBox? Find out more and apply here.
